“Restless Genius” Ray Kurzweil Speaks at Dartmouth

Futurist, inventor, and author Ray Kurzweil presented a multimedia lecture entitled Innovation in an Era of Accelerating Technologies on November 8, 2012 at Dartmouth. Before an audience of almost 400 students, staff, faculty and Upper Valley residents, Dr. Kurzweil explored the elevating pace of change that has been enabled by technological advances.  Kurzweil suggested that the intelligence of technology is vastly expanding at the same time that its cost and size are shrinking.  Specifically for those in higher education, according to Kurzweil, this means that universities will need to shift their focus from physical infrastructures to hands-on learning and one-on-one mentoring through the use of digital and online resources. Kurzweil's lecture was part of the Leading Voices in Higher Education strategic planning lecture series.
